Another school year has ended! For some it was the last school year of their lives. For others, it was another milestone closer to their own graduation. And for a select few, it was the next stepping stone towards residency and up to SIX more years of education. Psi Omega’s senior class of 2010 all but rebuilt the fraternity at Ohio State in their four years, it is hard to say goodbye and thanks in a manner befitting the leadership and service they’ve given to us. In our attempt to do them justice Psi Omega made reservations at Elevator Brewery and Draught House downtown for a Senior Appreciation Dinner. The food was fantastic, the small batch beers (and soft drinks for some) were refreshing, and the company was top-notch. Seniors were awarded with collages of their experiences at Psi Omega, while Ali Blesar-Shartzer and Brandon Lloyd were awarded with the Fraternal Achievement Award and Academic Awards, respectively. The night continued downtown for some at nearby bars and clubs, a great end to a great four years, thank you seniors and congratulations! See pictures from the event in the slideshow below.

Earlier that day we learned that the Ohio State chapter of Psi Omega was awarded the Founders Award for Chapter Excellence. Lots of great changes have come to Psi Omega in the last couple of years. Our membership numbers are the highest they’ve ever been (over 75 members now), the house is full of dental and dental hygiene students, and the group is closer and stronger than ever before. Our alumni have been contributing in record numbers as well. Most recently the house has been graced with a brand new washer/dryer, a new freezer, and small (but important) upgrades and repairs. None of this would be possible without strong alumni support! Next Fall we plan to throw an Alumni tailgate for one of the home games, let us know if you have an ideas or what to make sure you’re on the list for invitees!
Initiation for new members took place the weekend after the senior appreciation dinner. 23 new D1s were welcomed to Psi O, and several upperclassmen joined the ranks as well. A large dinner of grilled kabobs followed the initiation for new members and the first keg was tapped for the Spring party at Psi O. After dinner the party picked up with other classmates and went late into the night. The theme was Golf and Tennis players. Social Chair Alex Smith threw a great party with themed drinks, a DJ, and even tiki torches. Cleanup the next day was not as fun as the party itself, but it was a reminder of just how much fun it was! No one will argue that dental students know how to party.
The 1st year students had their big crown casting class Spring quarter. They go through all of the steps of prepping, taking impressions and pouring up casts, waxing, and casting the gold for two crowns (#3 and #30). Psi Omega hired Diana Hughes, a local lab technician, to help inspect our final wax ups and reflow the margins. Upperclassmen helped ensure proper occlusion with the opposing crown, attachment of sprues, and assisted in investing and casting the gold. Pizza and drinks were also provided for the long night. Psi Omega members were there working on their crowns or helping from 5pm until shortly after midnight. Everyone finished casting that night with no major problems!
