As the temperatures begin to slowly fall the AC is switched off, jeans are a more popular fashion statement, and Aspen is much more comfortable. The picture above was one of his rare moments outside in the summer when he wasn’t being walked, the poor guy! For the first year dental students this summer was a nice cool-down from a crazy year. They were in class part-time over the summer and are enjoying the end of their three-week break before school ratchets up again this Autumn (and they’re officially no longer lowest on the totem pole! Welcome Class of 2014!) The second year students entered clinic after taking boards part 1 this summer and are already in the groove, enjoying their new title as D3s.
The house had a few empty rooms this summer as fourth-year students moved out and incoming first-years waited until early September to move in. Welcome to Ebisinde, Rachel, and Kin Yan. Around the house new house manager Max Grosel championed several projects to get the fraternity ready for the new year. Closets were cleaned out of things that hadn’t seen the light of day in over 10
years, bike racks installed and moved so bikes are no longer in the main entryway, and most notably the parking lot was resealed by members of the house. The next project is the lab in the basement, hopefully we can clean it up and get it working at full efficiency this year. Check out progress pictures from the parking lot project below (click for larger). With the money earned from the parking lot labor the boys of the house decided to splurge half of it on refelting the pool table, new billiard balls and a new cue. The other half of the money was put towards the Miami tailgate – we were excited to host and meet so many alumni! We hope you all continue to come back to enjoy the tailgates before the buckeye games.
With the coming of September comes Buckeye football! Many of our classmates also spent their undergrad years as a Buckeye, and the ones who didn’t are quickly caught up in thespirit of Ohio State football. The first tailgate this year was hosted by Henry Schein, they brough out Schmidt’s sausage haus catering for the event, amazing! After the stomping of Marshall the Buckeyes took on Miami for possibly the biggest game of the year here, and the tailgate was just as lively. Tens of alumni parked at the house and mingled before the game, finding their pictures on the walls scattered around the fraternity and enjoying a couple several glasses of cold brew. There will be tailgates for every home game at the house this year, so please feel free to stop by.
This year is shaping up to be a big one for Psi Omega. With 25 members in each of the last two first-year classes, our goal is to top 35 this year and really grow the fraternity (UPDATE – 62, yes, sixty-two, students of the class of 2014 joined Psi Omega this year!). The more members we have the more great things we can do for them! We have many extra events scheduled specifically for the incoming first year students in the first months of school, as well as our yearly events for anatomy review, crown preparation / provisional mock practicals, and gold casting help sessions. Social events this year will include 3 quarterly parties with Psi-Omega member dinners beforehand as well as Thanksgiving dinner, Tacky Christmas Sweater Party, Initiation, and Senior Banquet.
Go Bucks!
